Haddon Matrix for Strategy Evaluation
The Haddon Matrix is an analytic approach to vehicular injury epidemiology. Developed in the 1960's by William Haddon, Jr., it provides a multidimensional approach intended to reveal contributing factors to an incident. Using the resulting matrix, a decision analysis can be applied to study factors for intervention. Barnett, Balicer, Lucey, Everly et al. (2005) applied this matrix to pandemic influenza preparedness planning. The matrix is also useful to planning strategy, for, as their research illustrated, factors could be separately identified that "may be associated with opportunities for public health intervention" - that is, have the potential for being influenced by policy or other strategic decisions.
