Moodle for Serious Games
Discussion of how the open source product Moodle is being used to integrate serious games with standards-based enterprise learning environments.
The
Delta3D adaptation proposed would incorporate SCORM / LMS
compatibility, which by definition includes a vehicle for collecting
and reporting student performance. Previous project initiatives at NPS
MOVES extended Delta3D’s ability to play nicely in an LRM framework.
These enhancements utilize the Moodle open source course management
framework to deliver:
- Delta3D has been enhanced to include LMS-friendly and SCORM compliant features, including compliance with IEEE 1484.12.1 – 2002, as developed by NPS partner Engineering and Computer Simulations
- LRM (individual and team) capabilities within Moodle. MOVES is part of a team of firms awarded a contract to develop the DoD S1000D-SCORM Test Bed. Separately AVI has deployed the SCORM-IMS/GLC metadata packaging standard in a commercial software application, a multi-terabyte survey data collection project.
- Open source serious games based upon the Delta3D platform and collateral software bridges can aggregate game content into Sharable Content Objects (SCO’s) that communicate with the LMS (Moodle)
