WHO Raises Alert Level to V
The WHO raised its pandemic flu alert to Phase V on April 29, 2009.
The World Health Organization increased its pandemic flu alert level
to Phase V — its second-highest level. As reported
by NPR, WHO Director Margaret Chan recommended that "All countries
should immediately now activate their pandemic preparedness
plans." The WHO had raised the alert to level IV only Monday, two
days previously. At the same time, public health officials were warning
that even if cases subside with warmer weather in the Northern
Hemisphere, the virus could be back in force by winter.
