Simulating ER Preparedness

Lisa Patvivatsiri presented a computer simulation of an emergency room. The simulation takes into account patient flow through the treatment process, examines ER resources and considers the impact of a hypothetical bioterrorist attack.

Patvivatsiri's paper reports that the simulation was able to recommend a staffing strategy at two "bottlenecked areas" in the MTF. These suggestions would allow a significant reduction in total ER time by patients and better use of resources. The study also included a sensitivity analysis.
